It seems I'm on a downward spiral. My embarrassing experiences have become more frequent and noticeable.
When publishers visit our office it is always an exciting and nervous time. Usually this means there are a lot of meetings to prepare for, this is the stressful part but sometimes it also means we have an hour or two of talking and training with them.
So when we know one of these guys is coming into town, we make sure to be extra prepared. This last time we were all meeting in a conference room and getting a walk through on a
presentation. You can only imagine the glow on my face when the publisher noticed the copies she printed hadn't printed properly and I told her I had prepared extra copies.
This was my "pat on the back" moment. It is great to feel a step ahead for once! So I quickly walked to my office to pick up these presentations.....
And then it happend. On my way back with all the presentations in-hand. I FACE PLANTED. Right outside the door to the conference room. In front of my managers, my boss, and the publisher. I must say, this is one of the post embarrassing moments of my professional career.
After taking a moment to cool down from the embarrassment I walk in and she says, "thats totally something I would have done."
Now, we all know this is BS but empathy is always nice.
so, what is the upside? The publisher will never forget me.

Its always best to come clean.
Its weird to think of how and when I met all the friends I've collected over the years. I'm by no means popular but I have developed and managed to keep close relationships with people I never thought I would.
Over the years I've also made a lot of mistakes that cost me some friendships. What I've come to learn and understand is that not too many people are willing to accept you for who you are. Most would be more than happy to talk about you behind your back and die of envy if you happened to succeed at something. So now that I have found friends that are truly there for me I try to hang on to them. True friends are the people worth putting your ego aside for, they are the people that aren't worth getting into petty arguments with, who are there when its an emergency or when its not. They would have your back in fight (even though you are way to to old and classy for that).
I keep these relationships by doing the one thing that I'm good at. Admitting when I'm wrong. This one very simple quality has managed to keep me out of bad relationships and in good ones.
The downside to being honest is that many times you have to look people in the face and admit to something your not proud of. This causes arguments, fights, ect. It is not easy, but it is a fool proof way to find out who your true friends are.
And that is the upside- True friends are worth rising up to any challenge.

Oh Britney....
Last night I got the opportunity any 15 yr old would DREAM of. I went to the Britney Spears (sold out) concert and sat in a suite! YAY!
Okay, maybe I dreamt of it too....but just a little.
I've never sat in a suite before and I must say, that is the way to watch a show. Thanks Anya!(and her Mom!) I had a great time. The circus acts were great, Brit's (can I call her that?) back-up dancers were amazing, and we had the best seats in the house!!!
However, I am sad to report that Brit herself fell a little short of my expectations. She said very little to pump up to the crowd, and barely danced. I'm not exagerating when I say, she would walk to one side of the stage and shake her butt a little, then she would walk to the other side and shake a little more.
This is not the Britney Spears I remember and grew up watching. At one point during the show they played a mosaic of old video clips and performances that showcased what a great dancer and performer she was. From watching the video's I would put here in a category with the likes Madonna or Janet Jackson. In the videos her dancing was amazing, she was confident and owned the stage. Sadly, this was not the person I saw last night. (I'm crossing my fingers for a real comback!) The "circus" was a great show put on to distract from Britneys poor performace. I know she has the skills so my only explanation for this..... well.... it seems like she just didn't feel like it.
The Upside: I'm not 15, so my heart hopes and dreams were not crushed by Brit's less then great performance.
p.s. we also totally lucked out with parking!

Could not believe my ears!
Very few ppl I know will be able to relate to this entry because unfortunately I do not have as many friends that are Mexican.
Last night I was watching an interview being conducted by a very famous reporter Gorge Ramos, on Enrique Pena Nieto current Governor of the state of Mexico and potential contender for the Mexican presidential elections in 2012.
I was very excited to watch this interview as Pena Nieto is very young and handsome. I envisioned him bringing new energy into Mexican government and I was even willing to forgive his affiliation with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional, PRI.)*
However, it me took about 30seconds to realize that he has none of the traits that I look for in a politician. Pena Nieto is just like any other politician that has become idealized by the populous to the point where ppl are blind to his flaws. Every question asked by Ramos was answered with a great deal of arrogance and a very defensive tone. As if to say, he was too good to answer any questions. The only time this man seemed excited and happy to address a question was when asked about his relationship with actress, Angélica Rivera.
I really hope the Mexican community does not succumb to the same political party that kept the country hostage for 7 decades. I think Zedillo, Calderon and Fox have led the country in a positive direction, and the next president should continue this trend. What do these three have in common? Humility and patriotism and an open leadership approach. I believe that in order to be an effective leader one must we willing to let your guard down and speak openly about political ideals and ambissions.
The upside- The elections aren't for another 3 yrs. Pena Nieto, could learn quite a bit in that time. I shall continue to follow his political career.

Pong Betrayal
Beer pong is one of my favorite "sports". So you can imagine how excited I was when I played in a tournament this past weekend. Nothing professional of course, just part of a drunken idea that came about during the playoffs.
Nevertheless, we all pitched into a pool and tried to put on our most sober faces. I tried to have a positive attitude but I was screwed from the beginning. My first partner was the worst I've ever seen. I understand that some people don't play that often, but common! ....you can at least try to aim. All I was thinking was "Softball player my ass!" As frustrating as it was watching her miss EVERY SINGLE time, she was my good luck charm! For as bad as she was playing I was kicking butt.
I'm such a rookie player that I was unaware of some of the rules. For example, did you know when your doing really well you're supposed to call out that you're on fire! Being on fire means you can continue to shoot until you miss. Well I made five shots in a row and unaware of this rule, which takes effect after your third shot, I kept giving up my turns. When I realized what was going on I was a little upset because I ended up losing the game and had I been the only one to shoot..... well who knows we could've done really well.
What bothered me most was that these rules were hidden from me, by the guy I'm dating! SERIOUSLY GUYS, losing to a girl is OKAY! and winning by cheating is NOT cool!
The Upside: It was a very kind reminder of how ruthless women should be around men because the moment you turn a blind eye they'll take you for what your worth.

Note to my Girls
Not too long ago I was the only single person among my group of girl friends, but it wasn't for long. Almost as if the end of my relationship started a chain reaction, next thing I know three of my girl friends are single and one started questioning her engagement. And the more time passed I realized that all of these changes were happening because all of my friends and I are entering our mid-late 20's. It is time that we leave behind people who don't make us better. These relationsihps ended, not because we did something wrong, but because we matured out of them. That is a good thing! It is time to shed people who don't bring out the best. Who don't make you laugh. Who don't take you seriously, or treat you the way you want.
So for those of you who have done it, Congratulations! For those who haven't. Take my word, it is never as hard as it seems.
And the upside? the sooner you leave a bad relationship behind, the closer you are to finding a great one!

Just Dance!
Ever done something embarrassing only made worse by the fact there are a lot of people watching you?
Last night I took a hip hop class.....at the gym!
I don't know how most gym layouts are, but at Golds there is only one studio where they teach Aerobics, Step, Hip Hop etc.... The front wall of the classroom is of course covered with mirrors, but the other three walls are all glass. Everyone from the street can watch you as they walk by drinking their coffees. There was a man last night peering in for about 20minutes. As if that wasn't bad enough everyone inside the gym can watch too. In fact its seems they make en effort to make these classes embarrassing, because not only are the walls made of glass so everyone can see but every treadmill, elliptical, step machine, and bike faces in the direction of the classroom. So all those cool people jogging, using the bikes and the step machines are getting their kicks and distractions watching us losers dance off beat.
The upside? It was a very humbling experience to be able to laugh at myself for a minute... and yes I will continue to go, if you'd seen me last night you would know I need to work on my rhythm. I have also come to realize that no matter the outcome, its always worth it to try something new. :)
